O&G

Hi dearest readers, so sorry for the temporary abandonment. I've been quite busy lately because Im currently been posted to Obstetric & Gynaecology posting. A posting that evokes fear in most people. Full of malignant examiners(strict specialists), torturing oncalls and of course, highest exam failure rate compared to other postings.

Just finished my long case clinical examination a few hours ago! That's why Im free to spare some time in blogging, besides I also need some relaxation period to calm down my mind.

Lets ask yourself some questions:
Have you ever feel that your life is always full of obstacles?
Have you envious of others because their journeys are much easy and smooth as compared to yours?

Personally, I did felt that way! Especially when I tend to get the scariest, strict-est, high-ranking Profs as my supervisors/examiners in each postings. Don't ask me why. I...just...tend...to...be...SO "LUCKY"!!! At first I was feeling really frustrated: Why always me??? But, as time goes by, posting by posting... I was able to recognize that its actually a blessing in disguise. Seriously, its such a strong motivational force to urge me to be more hardworking, always push myself to study more, read  more, clerk more patients and learn from them. Without having that fear & anxiety of failing or getting scold by specialists during exam, I won't be that motivated on pushing myself to the extreme. So, in the end of the story, no matter what the outcome will be, Im still thankful for any scary Profs that made me learn so much in each and every postings. Just wish that the knowledges can stay longer in my brain:) Hopefully the knowledge that I equipped will be helpful when I start my work as a HO in one year time.

Obstetric & Gynaecology, its one of the toughest major posting that I've been through. Reason is that we were not exposed to much O&G stuffs during our first 3 years of medical studies. That means its actually our very first time to learn everything about pregnancy, and how to manage a patient from any antepartum>intrapartum>postpartum complications. I was being put into a Heavenly Team A, in which the specialist will listen patiently to our case presentation, discuss and teach us alot! Utmost grateful for that^^ It's also the only posting that we will be given chances to improve our skills of blood taking, setting IV lines etc etc. Although oncalls were such a torture, but nevertheless, its a good exposure to us to anticipate how our HO life will be when we are working in O&G department later. We had 2 weekday oncalls(6pm-6am) and 1 weekend oncall(24hours), when we need to fulfill logbook requirements of conducting 5 normal deliveries. That's the most messy yet exciting and interesting part. For me, the most enjoyable moment is watching the mother cuddling the newborn in her arm after endured hours of pain and torture. That could simply moved me to tears. Of course, it also reminded me of how my mother suffered through the pain to give birth to me and my siblings. Labour pain, I heard that its actually beyond and transcends all the pain existed in this world.

6 weeks ended like rockety fast! Im gonna miss those moments of oncalls, where I sit beside moms in labor, chatting with them to somehow distract them from labour pain, and encouraging them to push when they start the delivery process. Thinking back, when I was assisting HOs to do suture at 3am and I was practically falling asleep while standing, that was hilarious! Not to forget about the BABIES!!! Looking at you with such innocent eyes after they just survived tunneling through the birth canal. Nevermind, I will meet with more BABIES starting from next week>entering Paediatric soon, which is my final posting in 4th year!^^

This is the thing: Although I may complain relentlessly about how miserable my life in USMkk might be, I still love my medical school. Simply because it has a good teaching policy, a student-friendly teaching hospital, specialists that are so willing to teach, and cooperative patients! Its still one of the best medical school in Malaysia, I must say. So, a message to myself and also juniors who are reading this, cherish and grab every learning opportunity given to you in USMkk Medical School, and may all of us succeed in our career in terms of providing service and taking care of the sick! Never to forget our starting point of chasing this dream: to help cure the sick, or at least relief their sufferings.

Wow, this is really alot! Better stop here, strive for my MCQ paper in 2 days time!

thanks for the memories

drizzling rain outside my window
the weather is so cooling
and im in a semi-conscious state
ready to fall asleep by any second
but NOT before i've finished blogging about this:)

this post is specially dedicated to my beloved club in USMkk...

Thanks for playing a BIG part in my 2nd year in university.

You made my life busy like hell yet so fruitful and satisfying.

You snatched away most of my study time, just enough to teach me how to appreciate and make good use of the precious time left.

There were times when i was so angry and frustrated, only through this i've learnt how to manage my emotion and not let everything to be displayed for public.

Once, you took away my dignity and i felt like giving up,but you made me realize that life has to move on,i finally found my courage and the spirit to make a good fight.

Serving with you in this whole year was indeed an eye-opener,i was never good in judging between good or bad,but now i think i have a much better "eyesight".

I have always thought that love is a wonderful thing that you'll never have enough, but you made me see that over-pouring love could bring destruction. The worst part is,when you love truly and deeply, you'll be hurt deeper and longer.

Lastly, you've definitely made me a stronger person, mentally.Im still keeping a strong faith and belief that, the good shall ALWAYS win.And now i believe in myself more than anybody else.

You made me smile.
You made me laugh.
You made me cry.

But no matter what, you're still a beautifully crafted piece of memory which i will be keeping till the end of my life. Im truly happy accepting the fact that im passing this great responsibility to the next generation,in the meantime feeling sad that we could no longer directly contribute to you anymore.Believe me,when a group of people are sharing the same vision of making something better, and together we made a difference,it feels amazing.

We've tried our best and have no regrets.
Its your turn now=)

HAPPY PARENTS' DAY~

a super nice Baskin Robin's ice-cream cake...

we enjoyed it very much...
each of us holding a dessert spoon
dissecting through the layer of Jamoca Almond Fudge ice-cream and chocolate cake

the whole chunks of roasted almond...
the silky smooth and super creamy ice-cream...
the spongy chocolate cake...
the cheerful family chat...
and the sweet smile of ours...

owhhHH~
what a SWEET & LOVING family!!!

the end

ps,
maybe what i heard from the radio is true:
mother's day and father's day are meant for those who never express their gratitude to their parents!and that for me...im dare to say that i love my parents each and everyday...i did argue with them sometimes><...but,well,that was part of the fun!muahaha^^

let your parents know that you love them
they deserve it
because you're always the little devil
and they're always the angels who always stand by your side
no matter what

i gotta feeling~

In such lovely morning, im supposed to read about Thalassemias...
but...
i've lost to my temptation of blogging!XD

yesterday night was the first ever full dress rehearsal+quality control(QC) of our CNY Night 2011...

although im now lacking of sleep
& accumulating mountain-height of untouched lecture notes
& being constantly mentally challenged
& physically fatigue...
but everything subsided the moment when i see my wushu juniors were trying their best to give satisfactory performance=)

well it was just a rehearsal afterall...
so we can't be too proud of ourselves till we really give our best performance during the real show on 25th February!!!
again,please come and support us!!!
there are plenty of superb performances that are worth-while for you to spend money on buying the ticket and time for the show!!!

if you're not in-charged of any performances you'll never get to understand my feelings...
let me tell you then^^

those 20 "tiny tots" were like my own lil bro and sis
i will be so worried whenever someone complains having gastritis
when someone fell down during training, it hurts me from inside too
and everytime when i watched them performing on stage for senior's QC
my heart beats as fast as theirs
im not sure whether im describing this way too bombastically
but this is how i feel

5 days left before the real show...
let's improve better in each training sessions
gain more confidence from each practice flow that you've ran
learn to compress your nervousness and be calm when you're on stage
you all will be fine
:)

PBL 14

PBL 14
they are my lovely PBL mates...
2nd row(R to L):zhi shuang,fuad,faizal,,syazana,razana,me
1st row(R to L):shanti,aziyanti,adilah
ps,zhi yuan and amalina are missing...XD

Hhmmm~had a mini jamuan raya with my PBL mates just now, feeling full and satisfied^^
what i wanna tell is that im really grateful to have them as my PBL mates...initially,i must admit that i wasn't feeling comfortable around them, maybe due to my sucking BM and lack of mixing with malays and indians...but things are improving...we're mixing well now...we talk & laugh & learn together...after listening to gossips from other PBL groups,i must really thank God for giving me non-selfish PBL mates,non-syok sendiri,non-arrogant,non-aggressive and most importantly, they don't mind and don't fuss when i ask many questions during PBL and clinical teaching sessions, and they won't feel annoyed when i used to participate actively in discussions...('cz i know certain people who dislike those actively talking people like me...XD)

lastly, may our PBL group to stay happily ever after, till the 2nd phase ends,at least^^

spilling ,
vivian

big girls don't cry

since when i will always blog during my last night stay at home huh
=)

客家面,擂茶饭,mum's special char siew,糖水街,station one cafe's chicken chop,olivenz's niceee lamb chop,coccooon's chicken chop,大树脚,cameron highland's cherry tomatoes & strawberries & roasted sweeeet potatoes,secret recipe's cakes,baskin robin's,tutti fruitti's,strawberry moments,bak kut teh,tau fu fa,dim sum,东海餐馆,pasar malam...the list goes on and on but these are all that i could think of...

I HAVE CONQUERED THEM ALL!!!=D
im feeling satisfied and at the same time, feeling pathetic, for myself...
i was asking my mum one day:"since when i became such a hungry ghost?"
lol~the only explanation is that i only get an unbelievably short hols once in a blue moon, once in 3 months time!!!and the cravings just accumulated day by day, till i gotta cure it all during this hols if not i'll need to wait for another 3 months...and i know that im not alone,'cz during my girls' day out with my besties,we were counting with each other about what Ipoh food that we haven't eat...we no longer care about the weight gain!!!XP

♫    ♫   ♫
the best part during the hols is definitely to go for morning walk or jog around the park with my daddy & mummy, and then to have a hearty breakfast after the exercise routine...
Rate:♥♥♥♥♥

next, the relaxing facial mask session at home, lying on the sofa, reading magazines...
Rate:♥♥♥♥

following up,the outing sessions with my besties,to chat,to shop,to walk and to eat with them...
Rate:♥♥♥♥

not to forget my day trip to Cameron Highland with my parents and it was all about eating, again!!haha
Rate:♥♥♥♥

besides, the 1 day trip Ipoh tour, visited by bunch of KL friends,to bring them "jalan-jalan cari makan"...
Rate:♥♥♥♥
window shopping, well,a lil bit of shoppings^^
Rate:♥♥♥
♫    ♫   ♫

daddy asked:"do you feel upset that you gotta leave home tomorrow?"
i said:"nope,im used to it already lah~"

big girls don't cry
big girl knows that she has much more important things to do in the campus than to indulge at home...
big girl knows that she needs to face the reality that we just can't stay home FOREVER,but we can always return home whenever we want to...
big girl knows that she needs to shed of the weight she gained during this holsXD
so big girls like ME,will never cry
*smile*

ps...actually i've took quite a lot of pics during this hols but i didn't bring home the USB port...will upload those pics soon ya...stay tuned^^

ps no.2...phew,nearly forget!!!daddy mummy i love you!!!for the love and care that i used to take for granted,im grateful to have the nicest parents in the WORLD...you were like magicians,to always bring me where i wanna go,feed me what i wanna eat,and let me spend on what i wanna buy...im really aware of how fortunate i am^^
感恩~

today's case was lung cancer
T.T

sigh...
everytime when i go to the hospital to do clerking
i'll return to my hostel, feeling depressed...
i just can't help feeling sad for those patients
am i being too sensitive/emotional???

medical students out there...
anybody sharing the same feeling as mine?

vivian, you need to be a stronger person...
mentally stronger than the patient,at least.

love.care.empathy

this few days really meant a lot to me
during my journey of pursuing my dream
:)

i went to clerk my first ever patient
because its my turn to do case presentation to doctor and my group members in tomorrow's PBL session...

senior told us this when he was briefing us regarding History Taking and Physical Examination:
"although the patient that you clerked may considered as a case to you,but DO NOT EVER treat them as a subject, treat them as a multi-emotional human being,do not cause unnecessary pain to them and most importantly, appreciate their cooperation..."

well he was definitely right but i wonder how many of us could actually apply this in real situation?...

and so with senior's advices and lots of studying from books and lecture notes... i wore my white coat, brought my stethoscope, pen torch and my clerking board...i entered the hospital with a malay girl coursemate so that she can help me by translating those "kelate" words and be my chaperone...when we reach the ward we started to look for patients with respiratory diseases and after much picking,we approached a very old Malay man,he was unable to talk clearly and so i did history taking by asking his daughter-in-law...it turns out that the poor, old man actually been admitted to the hospital for more than 2 weeks time and he kept on telling me that he just wanna go home,so i consoled him, asked him to rest well...due to his ill condition that time,i just couldn't bear to perform Physical Examination on him and so i only returned to him on the next day to do PE,and it was yesterday...his condition has improved so much when i met him yesterday, and after asking permission from his son, quite surprisingly, they actually allow me to do PE without much asking!

well,it was my first time performing PE myself on a real patient of mine,so i was undeniably nervous, but after talking a few words with the old man, touching him while consoling him, feeling his warm, fragile body heaving up and down slowly beneath my touching, and he expressed gratitude to me for caring him,i could feel the confidence building inside me,this is the magic of the bonding i think=)

i'll only give myself 40% for my first clerking...but the experience and things i earned from it,it would be definitely 100%...i just hope that i didn't cause any unnecessary pain or discomfort to the old man...its really hard for me to convey to you guys how i felt at that moment when i was clerking...when i touched him and looked at his face,i totally forgot about the difference of skin colors between us,we are all the same,as fragile as ever...and when i saw him experiencing shortness of breath and trying to gulp in as many air as he could,i just feel like i could give up anything just to make him feel better,i can feel my love and care towards him, although i only got to know him for 1 day...this feeling was so magical...and when i was finish,i just wish that i could stay longer with him until he actually gets better...but,returning back to reality,i knew i should leave and let him rests...

this is the magical experience of mine...
the magical feeling...
the magical bonding...

this is what keeps me motivated

loving the way im living...

Kumar & Clark's Clinical Medicine,1343 pages
Robbins Pathology,946 pages
Talley O' Connor Clinical Examination
Chest X-Rays
Abdominal X-Rays
ECG Making Sense
Oxford Clinical Handbook(pending...)

this is the list of medical references for my phase 2 of MD
i just bought them today
say bye to $$$
lol

how am i going to finish reading all these???and how much memory spaces in my brain remaining???

anyway,nope im not complaining...
'cz i really love this stuff...
just not so sure about my brain capacity
hehe

❤  ❤  ❤
my bicycle arrived few days ago!!!=D
and yep it was sent to me from home...
im still remember that it was a birthday present from my beloved grandma when i was about 12^^
and now i can cycle every evening around the campus which i enjoy sooo much!!!hehe
although it doesn't looked fancy and cool as my friend's bike...
im still loving it 'cz it was brought to me,from home:)

❤  ❤  ❤
life recently is almost perfect, despite the fact that we non-muslims have to "puasa" together with our muslim friends...so innocent=.=...practically,there are only 2 stalls in the whole campus which still sell food during lunch time but if yours starts only from 1pm,congrates!say hi to starvationXP
❤  ❤  ❤
i went to the Buddhist Society's intro night yesterday and feeling so sad and surprised that there's only few 1st years who turned up...and i heard from friends that only few medic and dental students who willing to join the performance during their Mooncake Festival Night...

pathetic...
life in university isn't only about studying...
make your life colorful!!!
don't make it black and white like your lecture notes or else you'll be regretting when you graduate...
you can be actively involve in activities too even you're future doctors or dentists you know...
stop being a bookworm!!!
stop asking about merit points gaining from every activities!!!
stop being realistic!!!
come out from your shell,LAH~

hahaha...
sorry i don't mean to yell...
just a way to release my emotion...
i wonder will there be any 1st years who read my blog and get my message???
i hope there are...

its time to bathe and prepare for my Respiratory Block starting tomorrow...
we'll be studying about pneumonia, asthma, lung cancers etc etc
let's get ready VIVIAN!!!
=)
