live for yourself

After learning dhamma, I've learnt to live moment by moment, enjoying every seconds of my life, and am no longer live the life of others, nor chasing other people's target or dreams. I learnt that life could, indeed be as light as a feather, and that heavy burdens are merely self-creations.

Finally finished studying the last lecture note of O&G Block, which officially signifies the starting of my revision. Just as you know, my semester exam will come in less than 3 weeks time, closely followed by my Professional Exam 2. And miraculously, Im not feeling any stressful or anxious! Hmm, not sure whether if it's a good sign, but at least I can read and study and memorise facts happily and efficiently=)

Been spending half of my day sitting at a corner in the library, studying...
And when Im bored, I took pics and edit it using my new found fave apps^^

This app is so user-friendly and addictive!
Especially for those who love cute stuffs like me:)
Some sharing of my memories with dhamma:
Listening dhamma talk from bhante...Freed fishes to the river...Prepared flower bouquet for offering to the Buddha...Chanting and meditating with bhante...
and trust me, this is not gonna be the end, just the beginning;)

the present is your present, a gift:)

living under the social stigma

HI WORLD
somehow i just had a sudden inspiration to blog about the most common emotional conflict among teenage girls...

guess what?
BINGO
that is: body image

Lets start off by telling you a bit of my own childhood and teenage experience...

Since primary school, I had never been an attractive girl. I was fat, with round tummy, wore HarryPotter-rounded-specs, yea, basically all you can see from me is R.O.U.N.D., almost like Winnie the Pooh i guess. My parents even told me that other relatives used to sympathize me because of my, well, honestly saying, ugliness. And that continues up to my secondary school, although I've lost some weight due to hectic activities and tuitions, but yet I was still viewed by others as "fei po". Along those years, I was being made jokes at, being laughed and criticized but I never try to bother that too much. Because my secondary school was an unisex, my girlfriends won't boycott me because of my size, I was utmost grateful for that:)

However, I started to see reality when i entered matriculation, the time when I started to mingle more with the opposite sex. I figured out a simple rule: you can get whatever you want as long as you're sexy, slim, pretty and attractive. I was frustrated. But luckily I met a bunch of true friends, whom to them, nothing beats the true friendship:) Ever since I entered matriculation, I've dropped kilos without even being on diet, mainly because it was my first experience of studying away from home and all those culture shocks that shaken some of my weights off.

Then, happily, confidently and enthusiastically, I entered my medical school, USMkk. A place where pretty girls got all the attention and hi's whilst those average-looking girls don't even deserve a bye's...Well, maybe I was being a lil bit exaggerated but this is sadly, the truth. Perhaps this has been ALWAYS the truth of reality, its just that I was trying to ignore it throughout my life. Although I never overheard people commenting about my appearance, but I did heard some really harsh comments coming out from the mouth of some guys that I knew, and who knows whether I was also the poor victim when they were chatting with others?

Nevertheless, I've been living among this USMkk community for 3 years. From 64kg during my childhood, Im now weighing 50kg, and Im not ashamed at all. The main reason for my weight loss is mostly due to healthy diet and exercise. And I have been maintaining this weight without losing more because Im practising a healthy lifestyle. I feel healthy and happy with my body shape, although Im not as slim as those magazine models. I snacked on cookies occasionally and treat myself some ice-cream when Im feeling happy. I eat chocolate when I craved for it.

The issue here is, guys out there, yes, YOU!!! You guys tend to assume every girls should weigh less than 50kg. You laughed and made jokes of them when you get to know how much that girl weighed. C'mon, should girls also assume that every guys have six perfectly trained abs? Stop judging how a girl looks or what size she wears, will you? We girls never discussed about your protruding tummy or your non-muscular thin biceps because we can see you more than that, we prefer to judge a guy from the inside. No offense here, but yea, i think guys are practically blind, as they only choose to see pretty face on the surface, ignoring the kind heart deep within...

nah guys...
your dream girl, definitely weigh less than 50kg

GIRLS!!!
STOP being obsessive with your body weight or size or shape...
you deserve an enjoyable & happy life
not living over guilt because of the fear of eating one piece of cookie

love yourself
love your body
they are given out of love by your parents
don't abuse them
treat them well

this post is inspired by my girlfriends all around me...

life is short
so practice a healthy lifestyle

slim body?
NAH~you'll lose them right after menopause

kind-heartedness and smiles are girls' best make-ups
and they're permanent

❤the true beauty comes from deep within❤

comfort food

Went out with dear Erica yesterday and enjoyed a relaxing afternoon with her
We took lunch, went shopping for groceries
and treated ourselves some cake and dessert before heading back

Hhmmm~
have been abandoning my rice cooker for quite some time...
and i bought some celery and carrots...
initially thinking of cooking a classic chinese ABC soup my mum always used to cook for me...
but i'd like to try something creative, something more western...
and it turned out...
yum~

creamy celery soup with carrot strips, topped with chopped pistachios
=)

i just love the fragrance of celery!
stomach can't stop growling when im boiling the celery:)
and i peeled those carrots into long strips so that they resembles fettucine/pasta...
and for the creamy broth, i actually used those powdered instant Asparagus soup...
lastly, those pistachios were my CNY left-over snacks...

i believe that everybody can be a good cook
its just the matter of how creative you're
and the heart matters most

hehe...
when my 灵感 aka inspiration came...
nothing could stop me from cooking something delicious!^^

what a hearty soup♥
just hope that those carrots won't turn my skin into orange tinge
LOL

touch-ups=)

WOW
i just can't believe that my last post was almost a month ago

life is simply blissful for now

just a lil bit of touch-ups here and there
in case you miss my story-telling:)

♡♡♡

Psychological medicine block just ended and I was like oh-so-glad!!!^^ It was a fascinating, interesting block to study, at first. However, as time goes by, I was so afraid that I will be the one who turned crazy! Not so sure about the reason why though, but reading through those psychic lecture notes did leave some subconscious impressions in your mind and you may not even know about that. Talking about subconscious, hypnosis and stuffs, well, those were quite interesting topic to read but yet, creepy...You guys can just google them if you're interested=)

And yea I haven't even mentioned about the Bipolar disorder patient that I've clerked together with my friends before CNY hols, what an awesome yet scary experience!!!@,@ Firstly, our bags were all misplaced by the those psychiatric patients in the ward. Secondly, the moment we entered psychiatric ward, we were surrounded by a crowd of patients who can't wait to talk with us, wow, 101% patient's cooperation! Thirdly, once the patient start telling you bizarre stories, you can't laugh, and you can't stop them either. Fourthly, while my friends and I were just about to leave, we were suddenly "attacked" by an aggresive patient, and trust me, that patient was catatonic, paralysed on the bed just moments before, then out of a sudden she just got up and started to attack us. Hhmmm~ I don't think Psychological medicine is my field of interest nor expertise in the future...

♡♡♡

After finished Psychological medicine, here comes our final block before the Professional Exam2, the Reproductive block, aka O&G!!! And I was "lucky" enough to have my turn of case presentation on the very first week, without any clinical skills taught, just knowledges from seniors and books. But, what I'd like to tell you is that, Im totally in love of this posting! Talking to happy expecting mothers, examine the fetus inside their abdomen, listening to the fetal heart sound from their abdomen, and when you go visit them the next day, VOILA!!! The fetus is born, sleeping soundly next to the mother, oh how joyful!!!^^ Although O&G has always been seen as a killer posting by every seniors in clinical years, but as we're in pre-clinical year, Im enjoying myself:)

Somemore, reading about the physiological changes during pregnancy, the whole process of conception and labour...I just can't stop thinking about the beauty of this entire thing. And of course, how great is every mother on the Earth! And how infinite can be the love from parents!

♡♡♡

The last piece of my mind that I'd like to share with you guys before Im drifting off to sleep, is on how my life has changed since Im learning meditation. "Meditation" may sounds like a religious word, but please don't get it wrong, as many people who are free-thinkers or even Muslims learn to meditate. It simply is a way to clear, calm and relax your mind, not anything related to religion.

But for me, I learnt meditation from the stream of Buddha teachings. And since then, Im feeling so much blissful, happier and peaceful than ever. Am I giving you a creep by mentioning about my religion point of view these days? Please don't, because everybody has their rights to choose their religion and Im none other special than the girl who decided to embrace and learn more about Buddha's teachings, hoping that my life will get better and so far, its working. Im simply thankful and grateful...

Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu

♡♡♡

Night's still young
but im not an owlX)

till the next sharing...
nytez:)

♡♡♡

in continuation from last late night post...

these precious memories during CNY hols made up my day

hanging out with my besties

having an awesome family dinner

visiting my super duper cute niece

last but not least, my ultimate hobby: baking!!!
those tiny little cutsies are peanut cookies that i baked together with mom and sis...
believe it or not, they taste awesome and simply melt-in-the-mouth!!!

Im a Buddhist

Looking back at my previous post, the younger me would never believe that its written by her future self. Im a Buddhist since I was in secondary school but was never a quite faithful follower. In fact, most of the time I'll consider myself a free-thinker. But as time goes by, as Im growing up, there's one more thing that I've discovered, that is the importance of one's spiritual development.

Ps, no offense to free-thinkers out there, if you're feeling somewhat uncomfortable reading my post you can just "X"...But Im so gonna share my view on religion with you all here:)

During the Dhamma class that I've attended last weekend, I asked:
师父,为什么我总是觉得不快乐?
为什么我会觉得很寂寞很想家?

师父答:
一,有可能你还没有找到你的人生目标,所以总觉得生活没意义。
二,有可能你心中没有一个依靠。

These two reasons are so true indeed. Regarding the first reason, its not that I haven't decided on my life goal yet, being a doctor is the only occupation that I wish to do in the future. I've made this decision since I was Form 4, when I developed interest towards Biology and human's physiology, and when I figured out that life is simply too short, so Im gonna live a challenging, meaningful life by choosing this profession of white robe. I don't wanna live a simple life and work like a robot. I wanna see different people with different illness and challenges everyday that need my help to alleviate their sufferings. I know this sounds cheesy-fishy-whatever but that was what inside my mind, really. However, I did realise that my love towards people isn't that strong. I think it takes time to develop this greatest love of all, towards all people regardless of race and religion. So...I guess this doesn't count as one of the reason right?=)

To me, I think the second reason plays a bigger role. When parents are no longer by my side, physically I meant, what i can rely on is my friends. But friends, to me, frankly speaking, they are impermanent, and you wouldn't know whether they'll betray and leave you in the next second. This makes me feel so vulnerable, sometimes...So, my trust and understanding in Buddha teachings has become my core of living, just like a guide or map. Whenever I've lost my way, I'll just refer to His teachings.

Im sure that any major religions lead their followers to a positive, correct way of living, not only Buddhism. So I respect any other religions as well. Im glad that Im still not too late in realizing the importance of spiritual development, because it does makes you a better person, with more positive outlook and hope towards life.

SO
say bye to the old me
the depressed, miserable me

life is definitely worth living
if you have found the reason

the rules of living 2012

The first rule of living through 2012:
To never ever compare yourself to others.

This has never been an easy rule for me to abide to, but i'll try my best:)

Second rule:
quoted from the late Steve Jobs
"Don't be trapped by dogma-which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others'opinions drown out your own inner voice."

Third rule:
also quoted from Steve Jobs
"Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

As my daddy has always taught me: Just do whatever you think that it's right.

Hopefully i could stick to these three rules as much as i can la=)

WOW!!!

I feel like Nervous System Block just passed by like a storm! Within this 5 weeks, we've been bombarded with LOTS of lectures, seminars, clinical demonstrations, radiology sessions, PBLs, clinical teachings and the list goes on and on...and THAT hasn't count in those extra pile of books that we need to read and self-study yet! Time, has never been enough for me to cover everything, and i just couldn't understand how certain people can read and learn so quick and efficient. Nevertheless, I'm still quite happy with my own progression, well i think i've grabbed at least 70% of the essence of such complex organ.

It was such a fun block actually, especially with my interest of the brain. Plus those 5-star-neurologists/neurosurgeons in HUSM as our lecturers and tutors. It was indeed a great learning experience. The only thing is that, this complex organ really requires so much reading and time to understand. Those physical examinations were so many and some signs were just too hard to be elicited, but there were all so FUN & INTERESTING to perform. And the part when you should correlate all the findings and try to localize where the lesion is...THAT was the hardest and most challenging part, yet exciting!!!^^

I can't really differentiate whether im loving/hating this nervous system block, but i can only tell that i feel a sense of relieve...Tomorrow we'll be starting a whole new block-Psychology!!! Sounds interesting, and the time table seems less hectic. Great! At least i can use those time to brush up more on Nervous System.

And that's about it dear readers! Sorry if i made you feel bored, but this is what i wish to share with you guys, my original thoughts...

Lastly...

Final rule:
To have fun and enjoy life!
Smile & laugh when i still have teeth!
hehehe:D
